in4matic & Wage entführen euch eine Stunde lang in die Welt der Dystopien. Namensgeber der vierten Ausgabe von double»drop ist Opticals „To Shape The Future“. Der Track war bereits Ende der Neunziger stilprägend für die Entwicklung des „Deep & Dark“ Drum & Bass-Subgenres, aus dem in dieser Folge aus dem Vollen geschöpft wird.
Die Welten der Science-Fiction, der Raumfahrt, technischer Innovation, sowie dunkler Zukunftsvisionen sind untrennbar mit Drum & Bass verbunden. Viele Namen von Künstlern, Labels und Tracks aus dem Genre spielen darauf an. Auch der „Oldie but Goldie“ der Ausgabe, Adam Fs „Metropolis“, ist nicht von ungefähr an das gleichnamige Meisterwerk, den dystopischen Film von Fritz Lang von 1927 angelehnt. In English: Be transported into a dystopian vision of the world with in4matic and Wage as your guides. Lending its name for the title of this month’s show is Optical’s “To Shape The Future”. This track released towards the end of the nineties was greatly influential in shaping the deeper and darker styles of Drum & Bass, of which there will be plenty this episode.
The worlds of science fiction, space travel, technological advancement and a foreboding future are inherently connected to the genre; Drum & Bass is awash with futuristic and sinister soundscapes. Many names of the artists, labels and tracks make reference to this, case in point being our “Oldie but Goldie”- Adam F’s “Metropolis”, linked to Fritz Lang’s 1927 masterpiece with the same name.
